Today’s Music Is Freaking Pathetic At Best!

Has anyone, over the age of 18, noticed that the music out there today is complete and utter trash?

Seriously, I can’t think of any new songs that move me, and that’s just freaking sad to fathom! To be fair, poppy Top 40 s@#t has always sucked, AND it always will. Nowadays, however, even rock, rap and country can’t get “it” together. Musicians have lost their souls; it’s all about selling an image anymore, and that’s not what “real” music is all about! Real music is supposed to make you think about life … not about how much money some crappy band makes, or how cute of a lead vocalist the corporations can hire (some of the greatest singers in the world were ugly as f@#k … but they sang their asses off to make up for this shortcoming. Now, it’s the complete opposite)! Only a handful of artists are bringing anything original to the plate (without sampling classics, of course). Today, it all sounds the same, and there’s a sad reason for this: corporate bastards have taken the wheel, not the musicians!

Music must be bold! It should also sound fresh. It has to have an impact on those who listen. It shouldn’t be about “How is this song going to make me millions, while a corporation runs all of my decisions?” It should start as a creative outlet to the problems the singer is facing (all real music does this … to be quite honest with you) and not a direct path to Millionaire’s Row (this is why 50 Cent, Tim McGraw, and any other “musician” who don’t get “it” suck)! Music should ultimately be taken seriously by “real” critics, not just the ones that are paid off by MTV and their affiliate, sleazy corporate giants (I know I’m not the only one who feels this way … please tell me I’m not, for the love of God)!

What’s on the radio and TV today is pretty freaking terrible! It’s actually so bad that I haven’t been to a record store in a very long time (all my good stuff is mostly on tapes and CDs … that I’ve purchased way back when). The only radio stations that I can stomach any longer are the classic rock ones, and I’m hoping this problem will eventually fix itself, because I really do want to know what the next generation is saying, without them being told what to say! I want to hear the young rebel voices out there, but all I hear currently are sheep looking to turn a quick profit through lies! Hey young bands, start telling the producers that your original sound (the one that got you into music in the first place) is not going to be muffled due to any damn contractual agreements! Then go out on stage with your head held up high, knowing that you’re singing what you want to sing, not what they’re telling you to sing!

I love the old school stuff, whether it’s rock, rap or country! Real music, to me, is honest music, and that kind of music crosses all genres! Sure, fake a@# music does the same thing, but in a fake a@# sort of way (although it’s being called “genius” by the very same companies who are footing the bills). Not so long ago, bands needed talent to become famous. Today, however, bands are rated according to their looks and phony image (tell me I’m wrong. Go ahead, tell me!). One piece of advice: don’t watch MTV or any other mainstream music networks out there today (they’re all crap)! I’m only in my mid-thirties, but I already am starting to see my generation being divided by the next, and this is making me kind of sad! Where are the voices that should be telling the next set of stories? When is this bloody hell going to end?

Today, there are just too many followers instead of leaders/innovators! Once a band comes out with a fresh sound, the next thing that happens is that there are 50 other bands lining up right behind them, who sound exactly the same. Everything today is just so watered down that it’s hard to tell one band from the next anymore. This has got to freaking change … for the sake of all of humanity! Are we just suffering through another Rococo-esque period, waiting on an upswing that can’t get here soon enough, which will help save humanity once again? God, I certainly hope so, because I don’t know how much more of this gobbledygook I can take!

Did I really just call the majority of today’s music “crap”? You better believe it, mister … and I’m not apologizing (not by a long-shot)! Sure, there may be a few random decent bands that are still around, but on the radio and TV (note: MTV doesn’t play music! WTF! Why don’t they change their names to RTV, because all they play is “reality” trash) it’s all just a load of crap – plain and simple! The time to change is at hand … BEFORE it’s too late, of course!

Even though mainstream music is getting crappier by the second, at least I can count on one thing to save my sanity and get me through the day: the classics will never die!!
