“The Week in Review: Money Issues” is my weekly blog research on financial topics that define us as Americans, and shape the way we should do business.
Hey guys,
You ready to get out of here for the weekend? Tired of sitting in that awfully hard chair that your boss bought at a huge discount? Are you ready for some football? Got plans with the family? Well the time is almost at hand, so at least there’s some good news for you! God, I love the Fridays (why couldn’t everyday be Friday? Oh, because there would be no weekends, I get it! Duh, on my part)! Ok, gotta’ blare the Marley now … as its part of our ritual on this most glorious of days.
Here goes some of the best stuff I could find, so you can read, while you’re waiting for the closing bell. Enjoy: Continued

Many hardworking, and very creative, employees are quitting traditional organizations because the older workforce does not know how to manage them properly (this is a fact). So, if companies don’t want to find themselves outpaced, outthought and outsold, they better start restructuring now!
By this, I mean that the old hierarchical structure and chain of command needs to go out to the dumpsters, as do the old-fashioned sort of job titles (which are only used to keep salaries down). Employees in this day and age shouldn’t be hired to only do one specific “job” for a company (which may not even be around 12 months down the road) but taken on for their skills, attitude, conversation style and their aptitude to quickly learn new skills.
So, do you want to be the cool boss who gets “IT”? Well then, you better commit these following tips to memory, and then put them into practice (or else they [read: the one’s above you] are probably going to let you go instead … mark my almost soothsaying words): Continued

Your eBay search has just led you to what might be the bargain of the century! You were looking for something like this exact thing for the longest time and now you finally found it. You really want this (fill in the blank) and you really want it NOW … but wait a second … take a breath … read this article … and then you’ll be ready! You finished? OK then, let’s get started …

For starters, a good rule of thumb when it comes to buying stuff (anywhere) is that an item is only worth as much as people have spent on it lately (note: sentimental value isn’t a logical argument here. At least, it shouldn’t be). To find this out on eBay: first go down the left column of the page, look for the Completed Items link, and then click on it. This will take you to a list of recently completed auctions of similar items, which will more than likely give you a pretty firm idea of what you might expect to pay for your (fill in the blank again. Make sure it’s the same as the first time though).
Next, commit to memory the following four tips and you should be good to go (read: get your thing for the right price) after that: Continued

Why does the Guns and Roses’ Greatest Hits Album never get old?
Here are a few more questions to ponder: 1) Why don’t they make good music anymore? 2) Why must every rapper now throw in my frugal face how much money he wastes on exotic cars, gold and pimped-out mansions? 3) Why must every country singer superficially squeeze into the mold of what the corporate giants tell them that a person from the country should be like (note: Hank Williams Sr. must be turning in his grave)? 4) Why is alternative music, which used to cut against the grain, now a shallow shell of its old former self (even these guys sold out … so sad)? I really don’t get this recent wave of crappy, corporate-sponsored music, and I seriously hope, for the love of God, that something changes quickly (if not, then this dollar-chasing greed will cause the beginning of music’s downward spiral towards death)! To be honest, I haven’t bought any music for quite some time now (years in fact) and unless I feel/see a dramatic turnaround, I don’t imagine myself changing anytime soon!
Well, I’m sorry for the ranting … here goes the good stuff (while I go back to my old classic standbys): Continued

Somebody pinch me!
Did my Phillies just actually win the World Series Wednesday night? I still can’t believe it, and it feels so good that I never wavered (not once) like some of the fair-weather fans that I grew up with (you know who you are, posers)! It just goes to show you: the longer you wait for something, the sweeter it’s going to be when it finally happens! Thank you, everyone on the 2008 team — you deserve this one (have fun at your parade)!
Before I head out of here for the weekend, I want to leave you with some of the good stuff that I came across while surfing this morning. Enjoy: Continued
