To The Banks: Take Your ATM Fees And Shove It!

Most people have a banking account with a debit card! This is common knowledge, right?

Well, here goes some not so common knowledge then: banks want you to use that same card almost exclusively, as opposed to using a live teller for your transactions, because the latter would involve paying somebody $9.50 an hour to smile at you while they’re helping you out (banks pay around 27 cents to have your deposit or withdrawal processed at an ATM, but over a dollar to handle the same transaction with a live teller).
There’s also another reason that banks love to have people go to ATMs instead: so they can charge you some crazy fees (honest. I wouldn’t lie to you). Today’s banks are raking it in more and more every year, as people don’t seem to care, or pay attention, anymore to the fees associated with using ATMs. After all, it’s just a buck here, a dollar there — right?
