Making Yourself Truly Happy For Once!
By Pete on Jul 6, 2009 in Life & Health
Some people believe that happiness is the result of eternal factors in their lives such as success in their profession, the accumulation of wealth, meeting the perfect mate or creating the ideal family. To these people, I must say, “Yea right!”
Why be fooled by job titles, advanced degrees, fancy possessions, or expensive clothing? Does any of this stuff really matter in the long run (I hope you answered NO … enthusiastically)? Are all celebrities, public figures, or the wealthy necessarily happy (no way, Jose!)? To these silly questions, I answer this: never be tricked by outward appearances, as this will only make you doubt yourself and your own abilities! Remember this always: the real road to happiness can only be reached by using the things that are under your own control. If you keep this in mind always, you won’t find yourself in the same boat as the lost-at-sea losers who care about this trivial stuff!
My friend, real happiness does not depend on external circumstances (and it never has … that’s one of the secrets to life). It is an inseparable part of our consciousness, but it is well hidden by our endless thoughts, desires and worries. It IS a huge part of our souls, and it’s not something that can be gained (so stop trying so damn hard). All that you have to do is uncover it (this is the tricky part for most people … but once they do find it, whoa … they are super, super happy!)). Now, if we could all just silence the senseless chatter of our minds, we’d be able to better experience this inherent happiness that is our birthright. This means that in order to experience happiness intentionally we have to make our mind silent, calm and relaxed.
You must learn to concentrate and control your mind, develop will power and self-discipline to the best of your abilities, and practice meditation on a regular basis because all of this combined will help you realize what happiness is truly all about (hint: it’s not about money or possessions, believe me!). The Eastern Philosophers say that if you are in the presence of a realized teacher, your thoughts will slow down and you’ll experience elation and bliss (sounds nice, doesn’t it?). The mind of such a teacher is completely calm and undisturbed by random thoughts, and it is so powerful that it causes the minds of everyone in their vicinity to behave similarly, as if influenced by telepathy.
I have a question for you: Are you truly happy? Now, did you stop for a moment to ask yourself, “What is happiness anyway?”? I sometimes wonder how many people even take the time to clarify what happiness means to them, or discover what can be done to improve the present level of happiness that exists in their lives. Now that you know how to be happy, are you going to take the necessary steps to achieve it? I sure hope so, because it’s a great feeling that won’t cost you a cent (despite what the marketers and advertisers are trying to tell you with their greedy lies)!
Stop aspiring to be anyone other than your own best self, because that does fall within your control! Do me a favor … go out and become happier than you have been in a very long time!
