How To Reach Your Goals: Do More, Talk Less!

We all have goals … or at least we SHOULD have them!

However, without the right amount of passion when the going gets rough, these dreams will never turn into reality for you (sorry for being so blunt about it)! You must also have a clear vision of what you want to accomplish, and you can only get there two different ways: #1, or the “passive” way: by remaining flexible to each new day and dealing with each situation as efficiently as you can. What ultimately ends up happening with this approach, however, is that you’ll take on too many things at once, and not finish any of it. The best you’ll be able to hope for is that enough people will think you are generally reliable, in a mediocre sort of way. You don’t want to be that guy — trust me!

The other way (#2, or the “assertive/right” way) is a much more effective approach! Here you simply sit down, and map out your kick ass, five-year plan. Why? Well, this will help you brainstorm everything you’d like to accomplish in that timeframe, that’s why! It’ll also help you prioritize your individual goals, and choose which ones sound like winners and which ones should be 86ed (canned … for those never in the restaurant business). Some people may call this list a “dream” list, but what in the hell do they know? Don’t get caught up with titles … ever (make this list, despite what “they” say)! Of course, it must relate to the problems or opportunities in your current life, and the path that you choose must also be one that you firmly believe in (this way you won’t mind pouring your heart into it 100%)!

Sure, most people have great goals in life, but most of them also fall short on the follow through (you know this right?). Now, if you truly want to turn your dreams into reality then start on this list today … while it’s still fresh in your mind! Make it your personal mission to get out of that sh@#hole you call a job (that’s not your future, man … it’s not. Trust me). Tack that damn list up on the wall, and read it every single day. Go ahead: let your boss and coworkers see the mantra of a person who is going to make it in life, despite all the odds! Let those losers know that you’re going to do big things in life, because you have a plan! Then start each day with that list in mind. Have you figured out what you want to accomplish in life? Good!! Let’s move on then, shall we?

If you want to do something big, then do it! Forget what those jerks are telling you, as “those” guys are just Debbie Downers anyways! Remain positive, and strive hard to achieve your future goals (note: that’s what winners do). If you want something bad enough, and you’re willing to bust your balls, then you’ll get it – period! However, if you’re just sitting back like most people and simply wishing for something, let me be honest with you: it’s never going to happen (life’s not as simple as that, unfortunately). You must also have the right mind set, which includes being prepared for both frustrations and disappointments along the way. You must be able to pick yourself up and crawl through the trenches with realistic goals, determination, and clear-cut actions as your weapons of choice! By the way, I’m also dedicated believer in having a strong support system, so get one of these too.

You should never talk about your dreams to unsupportive people (they could never understand anyways) and if you’re really interested in something that’s hard to reach, you should try and find someone who has done something similar, and then learn the ropes from them (trust me … this is one of the best approaches) to see if that’s the right path for you, before you get in too deep (it might just save you a lot of time and heartache). For instance, if you want to become a well-known author (sound familiar? Oh yea, that’s my goal … sorry) you better start start “writing” now to get the juices flowing. Don’t worry … the first things you “write” won’t be your best (they never are … unless you step in s@#t your first time out) but you’ll get better and better with enough practice, over time, eventually.

My friend, you need to be putting your soul into everything you do in life (that’s a fact, Jack). A half-assed effort will always produce second-rate results … almost every single time! Put ten times as much effort into pursuing your goals, as you do into talking about them and you just might achieve the high success you desire. Then after you get there, why not look back and thank us small people who taught you something along the way? LOL … or am I?

The truth: you must either drive or be driven in life — these are the only two choices, which are completely up to you!
